As we get late into the fall, most people are thinking about the holidays. As we can see in this picture above, families are usually busy decorating their home for Christmas. However, being the lawn care nerds that we are at Dr. Green, we are actually busy preparing our lawn for the spring. Yes that’s right…. preparing for the spring!
The reason fall is so important is because there are things you can do to ensure that your lawn is protected from a long, hard winter. Follow these simple steps every fall and you will be sure to have a thick, green, weed free lawn every year.
1. Rake the lawn: raking leaves and debris in the fall is much easier than in the spring because the leaves are dry. Raking dry leaves is easier on your body and it is also better for the lawn.
2. Apply Winter32 Fertilizer: fertilizing in the fall gives the lawn the nutrients it needs to survive the winter. A well fertilized lawn will always grow thicker and greener in the spring. Applying the right blend of fertilizer also helps prevent lawn disease in the spring.
3. Aerate and Seed: fall is a great time to aerate the lawn and also over-seed if you did not get around to it in the spring. 70% of all root growth takes place in the fall so aerating and over-seeding is always a good fall practice.
