When it Comes to Lawn Care, When’s the Best Time to Aerate?
There always seems to be a debate about whether it is best to aerate your lawn in the spring or in the fall. Some people believe spring is best, while others say you should wait until the fall.
The actual fact is that the best time to aerate your lawn is when you can get the deepest plugs and that happens to be when the lawn is moist and the soil is soft. In both the spring and fall, the lawn tends to be softer because during this time of year we get more rain and overcast weather. In the summertime, the lawn gets hot and dry so it is hard for the aeration machine to punch through the ground to remove the plugs.
Dr. Green recommends that everyone aerate the lawn once per year in either the spring or the fall to ensure the lawn does not become too compact and that the roots are able to receive oxygen and water. Here in Joliet we are having a very hot and dry summer, so aerating this fall is more crucial than ever. If you have not already aerated your lawn, the professionals at Dr. Green would love to help!
