Look Familiar?

If you live in Frisco and love your lawn like i do, than you are probably familiar with this picture. Why was nutsedge such a problem in Frisco lawns last year anyways?

Yellow and purple nutsedge are not normally a major problem because they have a deep bulbous root system. That means that unless water can get deep into the soil (over 6 inches), then the roots will not have sufficient water to flourish. Last year however, we experienced record amounts of rain and flooding problems in Frisco last year and so the water did make its way deep into the soil profile. Deep enough to reach the bulbous root system of yellow and purple nutsedge!

How to get rid of nutsedge?

Nutsedge is a difficult weed to control because it has a strong root system. The best way to control nutsedge is to apply multiple applications of sedgehammer. Sedgehammer is a herbicide that is specifically designed to control this pesky weed. If you have an issue with nutsedge it is best to call a professional lawn care company in Frisco and they should be able to help you.
